Skinny Bob’s Billiards put every pool table on the clock with Union’s Timers, and took the math out of table time for good.

A pool table timer built right into the POS: 1,400+ table sessions in the first five weeks, each charged automatically, down to the minute.

There’s a reason Skinny Bob’s Billiards calls itself “Where Legends Are Made.” A pool hall since 1994, the Round Rock venue is the home of the Texas Open 9 Ball Championships, a short drive from Austin, Georgetown and Pflugerville. Eighteen 9-foot Diamond Pro-Am tables, two 7-foot Diamonds and two Gabriel’s carom tables for 3 cushion fill the room, with 9-ball tournaments five nights a week and pool leagues on top.

General Manager Shayla Neris and her team keep it all moving. So when Union launched Timers, its pool table timer built right into the POS, Skinny Bob’s was one of the first venues to put it to work.

Every minute counts

At a pool hall, table time isn’t a side line. It’s the product. Skinny Bob’s prices it per person and by the clock: $6 an hour during the day, $8 on weeknight evenings and $10 on Friday and Saturday nights. Every minute has to land on the right check, at the right rate.

Before Timers, that took a workaround. Staff rang up a one-cent item to stamp the time a table opened, then worked out the minutes, the rate and the charge by hand at close-out.

"We created an item button for $0.01 that would create a timestamp and we had to do the math manually."

Multiply that by 22 tables and a packed Friday night, and that’s a lot of math for one bartender.

A pool table timer that does the math

In September 2026, Skinny Bob’s switched on Union’s Timers right inside their Union POS. No new system to learn. The team built one Open timer for each of their rates: daytime pool, weeknight evenings, weekend evenings and 3 cushion.

Now, when a group grabs a table, staff start the timer on their check. Union counts every minute and adds the charge automatically. And when the tab closes, the timer closes with it. The staff noticed right away.

"My employee from last night just came to me to tell me the new timer was awesome. She loved how at the end of the night just closing the tab ended the timer as well, so that was not an extra step she needed to take."

No math involved

The numbers followed. In their first five weeks on Timers, Skinny Bob’s ran more than 1,400 table sessions, about 300 every week, each one charged automatically, down to the minute. With the math off their plate, Shayla’s team can focus on the players and the floor. Shayla says they’ve seen a clear difference in revenue since leaving the penny button behind.

A must for any venue that sells time

For Skinny Bob’s, Union’s Timers turned the trickiest part of a busy night into something nobody has to think about. Every table charges itself, rates follow the time of day, and closing a tab closes the clock. Shayla’s advice to other owners is simple:

"It's a must for anything requiring a start and stop time!"
