Union releases report on the best-selling tequila brands at high-volume venues nationwide and drinks made with “house/well” tequila top the list as the most ordered
Austin, TX (May 16, 2023) – Union—a data-driven hospitality engagement platform—has released a new OnPrem Insights report showing that tequila is garnering nearly one-third of all spirit sales at Union venues, racing ahead of whiskey. To dive deeper into the category, Union also lists the top selling tequilas (including mezcals) within a 12 month period at thousands of venues across the U.S.
According to Union’s real-time on-premise consumption data, the top overall selling tequila brands are Casamigos, Espolòn, Don Julio and Patron. The top three premium brands are Casamigos, Don Julio and Patrón and the top three call tequilas are Espolòn, Lunazul and Hornitos. While tequila is often ordered by brand name, “house/well” drinks — the countless unspecified brands that are not listed on a menu —are still the most popular tequila order among guests at Union venues.
“Our data shows that house/well tequila drinks represent a 33 percent share of tequila brands sold and enjoy an astounding 85 percent retention rate, meaning customers will most likely reorder that same option at their next bar visit,” said Layne Cox, chief marketing officer for Union. “In the face of tequila premiumization trends, there’s a strong argument to be made that house/well drinks can outperform when it comes to repeat sales. However, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t plenty of room for premium brands, but venues need to track this data and keep it in mind as they think about ordering.”
